LEONARDO CORAL
(MexicoCity, 1962)

He studied Composition with Federico Ibarra and Maria Granillo at the National University’s Faculty of Music (UNAM). He graduated with Honors. He obtained a master’sdegree at UNAM with his symphonic work Ciclo de Vida y Muerte. Coral is a professor at his Alma Mater. His catalogue includes over 150 pieces, ranging from chamber music to pieces for symphony orchestra. His works have been played in Mexico, Europe, USA, Canada, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and Latin America. In 2001, 2010, 2015 and 2022 he became a member of the FONCA National System of Artistic Creators. The music of Leonardo Coral has been recorded in more than 40 Cds. by prestigious musicians for Quindecim recordings, Urtext digital classics, Tempus, Iamc, wirripang, etc.He has achieved significant National and International recognitions.

Some of his works for orchestra are Águila real, Animalesmíticos, Máquina férrea, Alegorías, El Jardinde las Delicias(flute and orchestra concerto), Katharsis (Violin and string orchestra concerto), CantataUn sueño de Sor Juana (for mezzosoprano, choir and orchestra, Xinantécatl (for soprano, choir and orchestra), Requiem, Concerto for Orchestra, 4 Piano Concertos, 2 Guitar Concertos, Concerto for Clarinet, Concerto for

Sax tenor and strings, etc. He has composed 11 Sonatas for pianoand Three series of 12 Preludios for piano. Some of his chamber music works:Sonata for clarinet and piano, Selva amazónica for wind quintet, Formas acuáticas for string quartet, Alucinaciones for viola, Orígenes for violin, Two Sonatas for violin and piano, Piezas fantásticas for violin and piano, Danzas Orgiásticas for percussion quartet, Sonata for two flutes and piano,Luces y sombras for flute, cello and piano, two Quintets for flute, clarinet, piano, violin and

cello, etc.
