Andreas Markou

Andreas Markou is a musician, songwriter, composer, and musicologist born in Korçë, Albania, in 1995. He began his musical studies at an early age in Athens, later continuing his education in Korçë. As a young pianist, he received three distinctions in competitions organized by the European Piano Teachers Association (EPTA) between 2007 and 2009. He graduated from the Department of Music Studies at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, specializing in Musicology, and also holds diplomas in Advanced Music Theory, including Harmony, Counterpoint, and Fugue. Alongside his academic and compositional activities, he has performed as a chorister with the Solartissimo Vocal Ensemble and Coro Antico, and appeared at the 14th Aegean Festival in Syros as both chorister and soloist in two opera productions.

Composing for over twelve years, Markou initially focused on songwriting and setting poetry to music, later expanding his creative output to include symphonic, meta-symphonic, and experimental works. His first major project, Chronicle of Migration, was released in 2017. Since 2018, his compositions—including song cycles, art music, and orchestral works—have been presented in concerts across Greece and internationally. Since 2019, he has independently released a number of song cycles and instrumental music projects. In October 2025, he was awarded the First Prize “Manos Hadjidakis” at the Athens Concert Hall in a composition competition organized by the Athens Conservatoire, for his ballet suite Leventikoi Dances of Epirus for two pianos.
